Kayla Nicole Carter, just 24 years old, tragically passed away on April 11, 2025, in a car accident. The passing of this young woman has left a deep sense of sorrow within her community, friends, and especially her loving family. Kayla was a cherished daughter, sister, and friend whose love and laughter made a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.
Born on August 25, 2000, in Eden, Kayla was the daughter of Randy and Jennifer Snody. A free spirit, Kayla brought joy to her family and friends with her infectious smile and positive attitude. Her father called her his “Pumpkin,” and her mother lovingly referred to her as “Sunshine.” Kayla’s presence in any room was sure to brighten it, and her kindness touched everyone she met.
Kayla worked as a bartender and waitress at Outback Steakhouse in Danville, VA, where her friendly and welcoming personality won over many. She had a special bond with her siblings—Emily, Madalynn, Jacob, Luke, Benjamin, and Nathaniel—and was a constant source of love and support for them. She was also a loving big sister to her Carter siblings: Kadence, Haven, Allie, Eli, Autumn, and Josephine, and will be deeply missed by her extended family and friends.
She was predeceased by her grandparents Frank and Effie Snody and great-grandparents Billy Gantt, Roy Slaughter Sr., Anna Slaughter, and Jimmy and Carleen Hundley. Despite the sorrow of her passing, the memories of Kayla’s love, humor, and warmth will continue to bring comfort to her loved ones.
A service to honor Kayla’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 2 pm at Boone & Cooke Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following at Goodwill Baptist Church Cemetery in Ridgeway, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 12 pm to 2 pm at the funeral home.
